Sample data: a payment request email from a fictional home-services business, asking for a $3,500 deposit on a kitchen remodel.

From estimate to paid

From the estimate to the final payment.

Many jobs are paid in parts: a deposit, then the balance. Keep each payment clear for the customer and simple for you to follow.

  1. Take the deposit.

Once the customer approves your estimate, invoice the deposit so the first payment has a clear amount.

  2. Collect the balance.

When the work is done, send the final invoice for the balance, with a link the customer can pay online.

  3. Follow what’s owed.

Track each invoice’s payment status and outstanding balance until the job is paid in full.

Larger jobs

Larger jobs can be paid by bank.

Collect eligible ACH (bank account) payments for a large balance, and follow transaction details, statuses and bank activity.

  • Processing is not settled

A payment marked Processing is different from settled funds. Review its details and status as it moves.

  • Limits apply

Availability, transaction limits and processing times depend on the approved merchant setup.

Sample data: a $10,500 final balance paid by ACH, still processing.

Phone payments

When the customer calls, take the payment.

Type in card details to take a payment by phone, right in your web browser. No card reader required.

  • From any browser

Take the payment from any browser, with the payment details the customer reads to you over the phone.

  • In your records

Review the payment with your other card transactions: its processing date, amount, status and details.

Sample data: a $1,250 payment taken by phone in the virtual terminal, shown as a paid card transaction.

Good questions. Clear answers.

Contractor payment questions.

Can I take a deposit before the job starts?

Yes. Send an invoice or an email payment request for the deposit before the job starts, then another for the balance when the work is done.

Can customers pay an invoice when I am not on site?

Yes. Share a hosted payment link with the invoice, or send an email payment request with a clear payment button, so the customer can pay online from anywhere.

Do contractors need a card reader to take card payments?

No. The virtual terminal runs in your web browser: type in the card details your customer reads to you over the phone to collect the payment.

Who is SU Payments for?

SU Payments (Systems Upside Payments) is an online payment processing provider for businesses that get paid online: online stores, memberships, digital products and service businesses that collect payments remotely. In-person point-of-sale systems are not part of what it offers.

How can I track ACH payments?

ACH payments are payments from a customer’s bank account. Review each one’s details and status in the ACH transactions view, then follow deposits, returns and recorded disbursements in bank activity. A payment marked Processing is not yet settled funds, and merchant limits and processing times apply.

Can I upload and export customer records?

Yes. The contacts area has tools to add, upload, export and remove customer records, plus search, active-status visibility and a view of opted-out contacts.
